BSPS Area 8 Ltd Newsletter

 

JANUARY 2008

Dear Member,

 

Happy New Year, let’s hope it’s successful for all of us.

 

We have a very busy Spring coming up. First off, we have a Mock Show/Masterclass on 20th February to be held at Sparsho1t. \I\fe are delighted that the well-know judge and producer Penny Hollings has agreed to travel all the way from Lancashire to share her experience with all who are able to attend.

 

On 2nd March, there is the Winter Show (postponed from October) also at Sparsholt. This is a great and last opportunity to practice and qualify for the BSPS Winter Championships.

 

Finally, we are holding our major Show on 5th May. Included in the soon to be finalised schedule you will find some new classes. As ever we shall need stewards and sponsors. If you can offer help on either could you please contact Ed Fisher on 01252  842336 with names of stewards and Leigh Edwards on 07768  667085 if you can help with sponsorship. As usual we are hoping to see you all there supporting our flagship Show.

 

It only remains for me to wish you a great season and remember to let any of the Committee members know how you are getting on.

AGM 2007

After much discussion following the 2007 Christmas Party and AGM it was decided to revert to the original format at Winchfie!d Village Hall. The 2008 AGM has already been booked for 23rd November, so please put this date in your diaries now.

 

Winter Show - 2nd March 2008

As per the Chairman's Letter above, our original Show was cancelled in October 2007 due to the FMD outbreak. We now have a new date of 2nd March 2008 and schedule including Winter Championship qualifiers for both plaited and mountain and moorland ponies. This Show will be the last chance to qualify for the Winter Championships so please click here or contact Sandra O'Halloran on 01491  573957 for the schedule and entry forms.

 

Mock Show/Masterclass - 20th February 2008

Following the success of these events in previous years, we are delighted that again the Mock Show is planned for 20th February at Sparsholt College. We are also thrilled that PENNY HOLLlNGS the well known judge and producer will be taking the Masterclass this year. This is a great opportunity to get advise from an expert before the season begins. Please click here or contact Heather Wooster on 01189 721136 for details. Entries close on 14th February and numbers are limited, so please book early. All BSPS Areas are welcome, Area 8 Members: £10.00 and Non-Area 8 Members: £15.00.

The schedule is as follows:

          Lead Rein and First Ridden                        10.00  --  11.00 am

          Show Ponies                                                    11.15  --  12.15 am

          Lunch Break / Talk with Penny                

          Show Hunter Ponies/WHPs                       1.15  --  2.15 pm

          M&Ms                                                               2.30  --  3.30 pm

          Intermediates                                                  3.30  --  4.30 pm

 

**In addition, we will also have an expert on hand to assist with trimming and turnout. If you come to both the Mock Show and the Area 8 Winter Show on 2nd March we are offering a £25.00 voucher from Mrs Candy for the highest placed entry.**

 

Jumping Teach-In

We are also holding a jumping Teach-In on a weekday in the Easter Holidays (exact date to be confirmed). This will be held at Boomerang Equestrian Centre, near Hungerford and taught by a leading event rider. The day will be split up into classes for Cradle/Nursery Stakes riders, 13-14hh ponies and 15hh/lntermediates and will include jumping and course walking practice. Previously, these events have been very popular and numbers will be limited, so if you wish to attend please contact Karen Austin on 0118  9783385  as soon as possible.

 

Spring Show - 5th May 2008

This is our flagship show held at the Newbury Showground in May. The schedule is being finalised and there are new classes this year. Please keep an eye on this website where you will be able to down load a schedule from or contact Pat Fisher on 01252  842336.

 

Young Judges/Area Teams

In previous years at the BSPS Summer Championships Area 8 have won this prestigious competition. We are hoping to continue this success in 2008 so we are keen to hear from all Area 8 members who are willing to learn from experts at specially designed training sessions before the event and then compete at the Championships. If interested, please contact Heather Wooster on 0118  9721136.

 

We are also keen that Area 8 do the same at the Summer Championships in Teams competition. If you are able to put a pony or two forward for this, could you please contact Sandra O'Halloran on 01491  573957.

 

Website

As an Area we have an excellent website diligently kept up-to-date by our hard working Webmaster. BUT we always need information and news, especially for the Galaxy of Champions, to keep it relevant for all our members. Now that nearly everyone has access to a digital camera there should not be any problems with copyright (as may have previously been an issue) so PLEASE as soon as the rosettes start coming in in 2008 let us have your news and photos as it happens.

 

New Press Officer

As you may have noticed reading this Newsletter, the Area 8 Committee are pleased to welcome Sandra O'Halloran as our new Press Officer, and our thanks to go Daisy O'Halloran who previously did the job so well! Sandra's can be contacted on 07816573937. So another plea to all you members, any exciting/interesting/up-to-date news in 2008 please inform Sandra as soon as possible.

To raise the profile of Area 8 at the Shows, we are getting blue waistcoats embroidered with the 'Area 8' logo available in a variety of sizes.

A sample can be seen at the March Winter Show.
